Battle Point Astronomical Association on Bainbridge Island

Battle Point Astronomical Association was founded in 1993 by Edwin Ritchie, Mac Gardner & John Rudolph.  They were able to procure a high quality  27.5” Zerodur mirror blank from the Boeing Company.  The founders spent  the next four years grinding, polishing & otherwise getting the mirror ready for use & installed in the telescope, named the Ritchie telescope.  The BPAA has been expanding ever since and now offers telescopes for members to borrow as well as hosting Public “star parties” several times a year . The evening begins indoors in the planetarium and includes an introduction to the current night sky, & a tour of the facility. Weather permitting, the fun continues with an outdoor star party, where you can view the stars, moon and planets through an array of club telescopes set up on the lawn and also the Ritchie telescope. Fun!
